This Innocent Thing

Long planted seed
Flowers in the Spring;
Do I dare touch
This innocent thing?

Man-boy fingers
Move near the petal;
Trembling is calmed,
Love gives its mettle.

Joyful caress!
Discoveries sing!
Tender hearts share
This innocent thing.

Dancing day's dreams
Consumate the night;
Serene, nameless
In the morning light.

Adam/Eve grieved,
Fell with bitten wing;
Having broken
This innocent thing.

How near the stars
Reaching earthly bond;
Knowing what's now
Lasts for times beyond.

Bodies' forms pass,
Pain's flowing tears bring;
We'll always have
This innocent thing.
